About me
Anne M. Young joined the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields in 2010 and is currently the Director of Legal Affairs and Intellectual Property. In this role she provides guidance and interpretation on a variety of institutional standards, policies, and procedures, including intellectual property, contracting, cultural patrimony, repatriation, and overall risk mitigation. Previously, Anne led the rights and reproductions department and was responsible for the use of visual content, obtaining permissions, and negotiating licensing agreements for the artworks in the Indianapolis Museum of Art collection. She was formerly the photographic archivist at the Kinsey Institute, Indiana University, and has worked for the Art Gallery of Ontario, and George Eastman Museum.
Anne is the editor and a contributing author of Rights and Reproductions: The Handbook for Cultural Institutions, the second edition of which was published in 2019. This publication is the first comprehensive resource to focus solely on the rights and reproductions guidelines, established standards, and emerging best practices at cultural institutions. She received the Visual Resources Association's Nancy DeLaurier Award in 2017 for her editorial work on the first edition.
Anne has extensive experience in teaching about rights, reproductions, and licensing matters for the museum and arts communities. She is frequently invited to speak at regional and national conferences and is called upon to lead webinars and workshops on a regular basis. Anne currently serves on the Board of Directors and as Faculty of the Open Copyright Education Advisory Network (OCEAN) and the Alumni Association Board of Directors of Indiana University’s Robert H. McKinney School of Law.
